My clients were in a pinch and needed more storage in their master bedroom. I started this room design with an awesome platform bed by West Bros. that has built-in storage in the footboard and attached nightstands to give them their much needed extra space. This bed is unique in that it has an upholstered headboard with a built-in lighting feature, which adds to the ambiance of the space.
The dresser and chest, also by West Bros., were used to provide even more storage. I used a soothing, cool tone wall color for the backdrop, which balanced the deep wood tones in the furniture nicely.
Natural elements were added throughout the space to create a spa-like atmosphere. Notice the natural wood mirror frames by The Phillips Collection, the floor branch screen and misty tree painting – they each emphasize a natural and soothing mood.
I like to bring a touch of surprise to my designs, which I achieved with the retro style of the accent chair. My client is an avid reader, so I added a tufted chair and ottoman by Fairfield Chair paired with a drink table with agate top detail from Century Furniture. The upholstered bed and Caracole “What’s New Pussycat” Chair was done in white with bursts of color and texture that were brought in by the pillows, accessories and rug. I found the perfect rug from Oriental Weavers – it really brought all the elements together. For lighting I used transitional pendants, which are my favorite choice for creating the mood and always placed with dimmers.
My final touches were made with appropriately scaled accessories, which should consist of items that you love! Smaller items tend to get lost and really don’t make the same impact. I hope my design inspires you to create a relaxing, casual feel for the master bedroom…and I would love for you to contact me to assist in creating yours.
