“My Mother tells me she should have known!” Laura Dotson often refers to the many occasions when her little friends would come over to play, and “my mother says it would take about ten or fifteen minutes for her to start hearing the furniture moving around upstairs as my friends and I began to redesign my bedroom.” We would also play fabric shop in our basement where my mother would sit up for hours lovingly sewing clothes for my sisters and me.

After Laura graduated from Salem College, she worked in the banking industry for 10 years. She and her childhood friend resigned from their jobs and drove across the United States for several months, went on an archeology dig and Laura followed her passion by attending Interior Design school at UNC-G. “At that point, there was a push to develop your own aesthetic and put your visual stamp, so to speak, on every project you did. Many clients wanted that, but I kept trying to turn it back to them. The project is NEVER about me. Each of us has experiences and things that are sacred to us and most of us have difficulty seeing how they might be put together in a room along with something new. That is what I love more than anything else! Getting to know people, what is special in their lives, what is happening in their lives at the present time and applying all the ergonomic and anthropomorphic science and the art of color along with their personality to get ….VOILA——-their own unique home!”

What customers are saying:

“My husband and I had a huge task of furnishing an entire house, and Laura Dotson was the perfect blend of professionalism with a personal touch to do just that. I knew even before we got there that we were going to have a great relationship. She has done an amazing job – what I consider above and beyond the call of duty – to follow up and make sure everything is perfect. She is such a lovely, lovely, lovely person to have on your staff. I really don’t know how we were so lucky to get Laura. My husband and I both feel really fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Laura. Furnitureland South has a gem in Laura.” — P. Burton | Bluffton, SC

“Laura Dotson was a joy to work with and every one of the guys who came to deliver our furniture (3 different deliveries / 6 different guys) went out of their way to serve us. Thank you!” — The Wilkins | Four Oaks, NC

“Hi Laura,
Throughout our drive back to VA. Beach, we discussed how fortunate we were to have someone with your friendly personality, patience, and knowledge guide us through the purchase of our beautiful table and chairs…. and we are extremely grateful for the kindness you showed us during our visit to Furnitureland South. You certainly were most gracious to keep a smile on your face throughout our deliberations and we are so happy that we were able to find a dining room set that will enhance the beauty of our home for many years to come. We are very excited about our new purchase. Thank you again for your professionalism and friendship during the time we were together.
Warmest Regards,
Marsha & Luke Hirschler”
