I really can’t remember the first time I entered the world of furniture, but it was at a very early age. My Dad worked in the industry for over 50 years, plus he had a very active woodworking business at home. I was always curious and very interested in what he was making, probably more in his way than a help to him, but I wanted to be involved!

He was very patient in allowing me to assist with everything from holding the boards steady while he shaped them with a saw, to learning how to appropriately apply the wood stain and finishes. Yes, I messed up a few things, but that’s when I learned how to properly sand and re-apply the finish. I learned that furniture glue is stronger than most wood, and if you’re going to apply a veneer to a piece, you ‘d better know what you’re doing. That’s why we have such great Artisan’s here at Furnitureland South – they perform incredible magic with wood everyday.

My first “paying” job in the furniture industry was in high school. I spent a summer making those covered buttons that go on headboards to complete the “tufting process”. That was some time ago, and remarkably during my 16 years here at Furnitureland South, those tufted headboards are more popular now than ever! That goes to show that if you wait long enough, you’ll see a style or trend re-surface in a bigger and better design.

My husband also grew up in the furniture industry. His family owned a furniture store, prior to his career in the mattress business. And so at our house, we walk, talk and think the world of furniture – it never gets dull because there’s always something new and exciting around the next corner!

Please allow me to assist in creating your Dream Home, whether it’s an entire house, a special room or just one intricate piece you need to complete your project!

TO RECLINE…or NOT TO RECLINE…that is the question…

When men and women shop for furniture together, it can sometimes appear to be an experience similar to Mars meeting Venus.   Most men don’t really care that much about what the wife selects for the room, unless it’s a room where a TV is involved…then it can get very interesting!    If the husband ventures [...]
