May is Better Sleep Month!

According to a new survey by the Better Sleep Council, half of Americans are sleep deprived, with women more sleepy than men. At a greater number, adults 35-54 are even more sleep deprived than their cohorts! This group knows what it takes to get a good night’s rest, but refuses to take action! 7-8 hours of restorative sleep are necessary for even the average human to function normally, much less the superstars we have made of ourselves, with family, social, and work obligations. Not getting adequate sleep will shorten your life. In fact, based on the survey findings, there’s limited awareness about the negative effects of sleep deprivation, particularly when it comes to things such as weight gain, increased risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. We all need to wake up to the fact that a good night’s sleep is as important as a healthy diet and exercise.

How can you quickly gain that extra 40 winks we all need to restore our body and soul?
– Reduce electronics, such as tablets and texting devices, as well as television time in the bedroom–particularly IN BED.

Tablets and other devices keep us distracted from sleep

– Have a wind-down period and consistent bedtime routine. Just like babies and children, as adults, our bodies crave routine.
-Soften the light and the outside noise that intrude into the bedroom
-and lastly, make sure you’re sleeping on a comfy, supportive mattress from our Sleepland Gallery!
