Our Home Works

Co-Author: Christina Garrison

The Space Off challenge in episode 6 was to design a work space for a work-at-home female blogger. Her room was too large for just a place to work and she wanted to incorporate a Zen-like area where she could not only meet with clients, but also recharge, relax, and inspire.

We imagined our female blogger to be a modern day Dear Abby –a family therapist that has a practice and blogs about issues surrounding today’s families. We provided comfortable and practical seating to sooth and relax her clients, and color that provides a sense of calmness, happiness, and energy.

The credenza is a great storage area and is a perfect place to stash all the home office equipment, such as a printer and scanner. The bookshelves not only have displays and storage, but also give a perception of balance. The positioning of the leather swivel chairs is a great use of space and more than meets the criteria of sensible seating. These chairs can be angled towards the desk, reversed to the sectional, or facing each other for more directional conversation. The sofa with chaise provides a comfy place to relax and recharge!

The end tables provide additional storage and the mirror fronts give warmth and reflection. The artwork continues to add depth and calmness. But what would a home office be without the main items–the desk and chair! We loved the distressed finish and lightweight feel of the desk and the adjustable chair also has a swivel feature.

Your home office should be a happy place, not just functional, but soothing and inspiring. Now that’s something to blog about…
