Splurge vs. Steal: Upholstered Wing Bed
The Wing Back is back! But it is no longer exclusive to your own private personal sanctuary. Wing backs have grown up and now represent the ultimate bedroom nest for two.
Imagine a soft tufted upholstered headboard, combined with the coziness of a wing chair! Blending effortlessly into any décor, it can be reupholstered, allowing you to change the look and feel of your bedroom without having the replace the entire bed. Not to mention, it creates a fabulous focal point for your retreat.
The inspiration for this edition of Splurge vs. Steal came from clients of mine: a lovely young newlywed couple looking for a nice upholstered bed. They came to see me with the pages torn from a glossy designer magazine.
The Splurge :
I first introduced the couple to this gorgeous bed by Hickory White, from their Continental Classics Collection, available in a multitude of fabrics and leathers, with different wood finishes on the carved legs. It even offered customization of the tufting!
While they greatly admired this bed, it was on the upper-end of their budget and would mean they would be stuck with their old mattress to save money.
A much more affordable alternative came in the Flair Upholstered bed from Bernhardt Interiors: A simpler, clean look with fabric and leather options. While they were excited about these selections, this option proved a little too contemporary for their taste.
We continued to explore the options (and there are so many at Furnitureland South)! This is why clients come from all over the world to make us their go-to source!
Return of the Splurge:
We quickly came across our second splurge: Century’s Oslo Bed. Gorgeous fabrics and hand-made quality carried a price tag that was higher than the newlyweds budgeted for. But by now, they were REALLY in love with this oh-so-cozy look and the tufted details on the headboard!
Steal and Steal Again, So Many Options!
We were now on a mission, to find a more affordable version of this bed… And we did, x 2!
Steal Number 1: the Parisian Loft bed by Precedent Furniture was beautiful and with a price that would not break their budget!
Steal Number 2 and the ultimate winner: Curations Limited bed. The classic 19th-century French wing chair served as its inspiration, with extended wings and exposed upholstery tacks. I was a bit hesitant to mention that this bed was only offered in the beige linen (or an upgraded brown leather), but this neutral color and slightly rustic texture was exactly what they wanted! And when we checked stock, we were thrilled that the bed could be in their home quickly.
My clients were so excited to get this beautiful bed, exactly what they had envisioned. As an added bonus, they were now able to afford their dream mattress from our Sleepland Gallery!
