Let’s face it – many of us see dining rooms as a thing of the past, and most of the time we just buy furniture to try and fill the space. Since the kitchen is the heart of the home, we rarely pay attention to the room with the stuffy table, chairs, and china cabinet. That is, until we need to use it! I have even heard of people using their dining room for storage. What?? There are only a few times a year that we have our family and friends over for a formal dinner, eat too much, and then crash in front of the TV. And since we all have an on-the-go lifestyle, family meals in the nice dining room are infrequent at best.
But we don’t have to turn our backs on this space anymore! Here are some great ways to bring interest back into the most ignored room of the home.
Just Say No to dining sets! Just because ready-made rooms claim to take the “guess work” out of design, it does not mean they create a room that properly portrays your personality.
This beautiful dining room allows color and texture to speak volumes. With the introduction of a bold, yellow fabric and mix-and-match finishes, there are plenty of elements to keep the eye moving through the room. It portrays the eclectic feel of a person who is a fine furniture collector, as opposed to sticking with a boring “matchy-matchy” dining set.
I love the artist’s rendering of this Christopher Guy dining room! Since more and more homes are being designed with open floor plans, it presents a wonderful opportunity to really make your dining room the center point of your home. And no one does unique dining rooms like Christopher Guy! His trademark criss-cross leg chairs and dramatic dining base demand a presence in any home. There is certainly no easy way to ignore this collection. Again, we see the mix and match of the finishes on the table, chairs, and sideboard, allowing the home to become a backdrop for a beautiful dining scene.
This is a great option for those who enjoy a more contemporary dining space. The sharp lines of the table legs, and the metal accents in the X-base and feet, combined with the nailhead trim and bright fabric on the dining chairs, create a show-stopping look! Bring life back into your dining room, and it will give you an excuse to invite family and friends over again.
Show off the space! It certainly beats eating dinner in front of the TV…

Can you use this room completely different. Example, let say a family game room where the table would be used for chest, cards or a craft and then transform it back to a dinning room when needed. Can you design something as versatile as that . I would love to see your plans.let me know.i would truly be interested .
